Cayman: Official Funeral for former Governor, Mr. Long

The first Governor of the Cayman Islands, Mr. Athelstan Charles Ethelwulf Long, CBE passed away on 1st August 2019.

            Information is provided below should members of the public wish to pay their respects.

            An official book of condolence is now available at the main entrance of the Government Administration Building during business hours until Wednesday, 14th August 2019, end of business day.

            The Union Flag and the Cayman Islands Flag are to be flown at half-mast from Monday, 12th August until sunset Wednesday, 14th August to commemorate the official period of mourning.

            Details of the Official Funeral are provided below. The public is welcome to attend.

Interment:                                Eden Cemetery (opposite Pedro St. James)

Cayman: Customers may experience delays in service at WORC as Staff Training continues

Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC) wants to thank the public for their patience and reminds customers they may expect service delays as the front counter staff continues to be trained on the new system coming soon.

As seating inside the gallery is sometimes at capacity, WORC has provided extra shaded seating on the outside. Customers are also reminded that WORC opens from 7:30am and offers extended closing hours every Wednesday until 7pm.  WORC apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Cayman: Traffic Advisory for Miss Cayman Universe Motorcade

The Miss Cayman Universe Motorcade will be taking place on Saturday, 10 August, beginning at 8:00AM at the Royal Watler Cruise Terminal.

The procession will leave at 8:30AM and travel to West Bay, making a stop at the Cayman Turtle Centre, then return south for a stop in central George Town in the vicinity of the Public Library Legislative Assembly building. They will then travel towards Bodden Town, stopping at the White House, before heading towards East End and stopping at the East End Heritage Field. The procession will then return to the Royal Watler Cruise terminal by 4:00PM.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution on Saturday, and to expect slight delays if travelling behind the motorcade.

Cayman: Liquor Licence Application Deadline Reminder

Grand Cayman liquor licence holders – including those with music and dancing licences – are reminded of the upcoming Annual Liquor Licence Meeting in early September. The deadline for applications is August 16th, 2019.

To renew a license, persons should submit a completed application form for each location and license, along with the licensing fee for each category. Applications should be returned to the Business Licensing Counter on the 1st floor of the Government Administration Building.

Consumer Protection Regulations Public Consultation

The Utility Regulation and Competition Office (‘OfReg’) is launching a consultation on the proposed Consumer Protection Regulations (Fuels Sector). The Office considers that it is in the interest of the public to regulate the terms and conditions under which services and products in relation to the Fuels Sector are provided by prescribing quality standards. Planning Dept to Host Session on Application and Permit Process

The Department of Planning in the Ministry of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure will host an information session on the planning application and permit process on Thursday, September 5, 2019, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The aim of the session will be to provide information and guidance on the planning process to persons in the development community so as to reduce delays in the application submission process.

Some of the topics that will be covered include planning application submission process, planning application review process, permit application submission process, permit application review process, submitting re-reviews and modification of approved plans, releasing permits and certificate of occupancy process.
