The Ministry of Community Affairs is inviting the public to the following community presentations it is hosting with the Alex Panton Foundation from next month:

Cayman Islands Botanic Park Orchid Show dates changed

The Queen Elizabeth Botanic Park with the support of the Cayman Islands Orchid Society have decided to change the dates of the Orchid Show to the following;

Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April, 9:00am to 4:30pm

Grand Cayman Post Offices Close 12 Noon Thursday (7)

All post offices on Grand Cayman only will close at 12 noon on Thursday, 7 March 2019 to facilitate a staff function. 

Grand Cayman post offices will re-open for normal business hours on Friday, 8 March 2019.

The Postmaster General apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Cayman Islands Red Sky at Night postponed to March 23

The Cayman National Cultural Foundation rescheduled its Red Sky at Night for March 23 due to poor weather on Saturday.

CARE Quiz Night is on Wednesday, 6th March

Come join in the fun and test the gray matter!   Not able to make it on Wednesday, then please help us raise much needed funds by spreading the word about our quiz night. You can download the quiz poster by clicking on the following link and spread the word in your office and on community boards.

Coconut Cup Cayman Islands

What/Where/When?

A social and family orientated paddleboard event.
A joint parent and kids’ paddle (under 14s only), a team corporate cup and an individual 1.5 mile sprint (all paddle vessels encouraged in the 1.5 sprint).

Sunday 10 March, from 8.30am at Public Beach, SMB.

Events:
Parent and Kids: Half mile paddle. Entry $25 per team.
Registration from 8.30am. Race starts 9am. Board hire available.
Please bring life vests for the little ones. Parental supervision required.
Corporate Cup: Relay teams of 4. Half mile paddle per team member. One board per team (boards provided). Must carry the same designated coconut the entire race to successfully finish.

Entry $350 per team. Race starts 10am. Limited to 16 teams.
1.5m Sprint: All paddle vessels encouraged. $25 entry. Registration from 10.30am. 1.5 mile.
Paddle Starts 11am. Board hire available.
Prizes for winners of each race event. Spot prizes also awarded to lucky participants.
Corporate teams must register in advance. Please contact [email protected] to register corporate teams (limited to 16 team entries).
Early registration encouraged, but individual entries are available on the day.

Limited board hire is available at reduced prices from Liquid Life, Cayman Standup Paddleboard Company, 7 Mile Paddle and Whitesand Water Sports.

All proceeds to benefit Hart for Hearts, the pediatric arm of the Cayman Heart Fund, which raises public awareness and provides financial assistance to families in Cayman when their child is born with acongenital heart defect.

Revised List of Public Holidays for 2019

Public Holiday for Royal Visit

·        Premier has announced 28 March 2019 will be a public holiday.

·        The new holiday will commemorate the visit of TRHs Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, to the Cayman Islands.

Grand Cayman (GIS) – The Premier, Hon. Alden McLaughlin, MBE, has announced Thursday, 28 March 2019 to be an additional public holiday this year to commemorate the Royal Visit by Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall to the Cayman Islands.

The Royal Couple will participate in a number of activities over their two-day visit and the additional holiday will enable members of the public to better participate. 

            The updated list of Public Holidays for 2019 is as follows:New Year’s Day: Tuesday, 1 January;

Ash Wednesday: Wednesday, 6 March;

For Royal Visit: Thursday, 28 March

Good Friday: Friday, 19 April;

General Registry Extended Hours

General Registry, which includes the Registrar of Companies, has extended its operating hours on Thursdays to better accommodate resident companies needing to sign up on its online portal, the Cayman Business Portal, to file their annual returns and pay their annual fees. As of 24 January, Registry began extending its hours of operation until 7pm every Thursday. The final day for the extended hours is Thursday, 28 March. Registry’s offices are located on the ground floor of the Government Administration Building. Outside of the extension, the usual 8:30am-5pm office hours will be in effect on Mondays to Wednesdays and on Fridays.
