UPDATED: Statement by Cayman Islands Ministry of Home Affairs

Since yesterday (Friday, 21 September 2018) the Cayman Islands Fire Service has been monitoring an incident in South Sound involving tyre derived aggregate.

It can now confirm that as of today (Saturday, 22 September), the seat of the fire has been dug out and fully extinguished. In addition the fire pumps have been returned to the station.

At no time did the fire pose a danger to persons or property in the area.

The site will be checked again in the morning (Sunday, 23 September).

The Cayman Islands Fire Service is currently attending a mound of recycled tyre-derived aggregate on property at the rear of Vela Condos on South Sound Road.

Fire service officials report there is no visible flame and very little smoke at the site. They confirm that the situation is under control and poses no danger to surrounding property or residents.

The aggregate is being damped down, dug out and redistributed in the area.

The Fire Service will cease operations later this evening and a watch will be in place throughout the night to observe for heat sources.  A follow-up assessment will be carried out in the morning.

The owner of the site uses the aggregate for ground fill.

Senior representatives from the Cayman Islands Fire Service are working with the owner to ensure that there is no recurrence of the situation.

Expert on Ad Fraud and Data Privacy

From Ronnie Welch via prnewswire.com

Last Wed (19), Google invited approximately 200 people to its NYC offices to explore the current state as well as the future of ad fraud and data privacy. Google’s Director of Product Management, Payam Shodjai, said: “Ad fraud is everyone’s problem, and we have to work together on this.” Ad fraud is not a new occurrence, but since it was acknowledged by Facebook and Google that data was being stolen from users, it has become a significant topic of conversation with people looking to leave the two biggest conglomerates in the data space. One company, NOIZ, has already found a solution to ad fraud through the use of AI and blockchain to stop fraudulent ads as well as to give true data feedback to brands about their ads and the people who are buying their brands.

We have Dave Kang, CSO of NOIZ, who can discuss this and how ad fraud and data privacy can be solved.

CSR and Digital Advertising

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a hot topic for corporations both big and small. Not only are companies looking to engage in CSR, but they also need to inform the public of what they are actually doing. This is will ultimately lead to higher profits. Digital advertising is one of the best methods to reach these target audiences. However, the recent digital advertising scrutiny is potentially blocking this messaging from getting out there.

Now, blockchain systems are aimed at saving the digital ad industry. We have NOIZ, an ad exchange platform that will make digital advertising data transparent, and also give users a greater incentive to engage with the ads.

Would you like to learn how corporations can further drive social impact with some NOIZ?

Camana Bay October Events

There’s always something happening…

This October, Camana Bay is hosting activities and events to celebrate and encourage positive health, both mental and physical, at every age. Start off the month by showing your support for a good cause with the Anti-Bullying Fair, presented by the Family Resource Centre and Hurley’s Media on Saturday, Oct. 6. Children will be encouraged to showcase their creative work to raise awareness of the social effects of bullying in school and all its forms. Families are also encouraged to stay fit for a cause by taking part in the Mental Health Walk and Talk, presented by the Alex Panton Foundation on Wednesday, Oct. 10, and the Save Our Youth (SOY) Monster Dash on Saturday, Oct. 20. October is marked globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and everyone is invited to participate in the annual Pilates for Pink, run by ENERGY Essential Fitness.

Shoppers’ Night Out is back this year, happening on Thursday, Oct. 18 with a night of special offers and promotions for participating shops and restaurants in Camana Bay. Shopper will enjoy music, food, refreshments and chances to win raffle prizes all night long! Late-Night Shopping at Camana Bay will kick off the same night, with shops staying open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays from Oct. 18 until the holiday season ends, making it easier than ever to sneak in those after-work errands and pick up those gifts and supplies for the weekend.

We can’t leave the month of October without a Halloween-themed family event. On Wednesday, Oct. 31, Camana Bay will host Halloween on the Big Screen on the Crescent. This year the public will have the opportunity to vote, through Camana Bay’s social media, to choose which film will be shown that night!

For more real-time updates and what’s happening at Camana Bay, remember to download the Camana Bay Events App, available for download on the App Store or Google Play.
