NASSAU, Bahamas, Aug 16 2017 – Police say they have arrested two Caribbean nationals after they arrived here on Tuesday on a Caribbean airline.

In a statement, the police said that in the first, Drug Enforcement Unit officers on duty at the Lynden Pindling International Airport, conducted a search of a suitcase “owned by a woman from Suriname.

“During the search, the officers uncovered just over nine pounds of cocaine. The woman was subsequently taken into custody.”

In the other incident, the police said that acting on a tip off, they conducted a search of a hotel room in the capital “where they uncovered just over nine pounds of cocaine hidden in a suitcase.

“A woman from Guyana who had arrived earlier on a Caribbean airline was subsequently taken into custody,” the statement added.

The police did not give a street value for the drugs seized but appealed to the public to continue to share information “on any illegal/suspicious activities in their communities, no matter how small or insignificant (the tip) may seem”.
