Governor Designate’s first days in the Cayman Islands

GRAND CAYMAN (GIS) – Governor Designate Anwar Choudhury arrives in Grand Cayman on Monday, 26 March 2018 and will be engaged in official duties soon after his airplane lands.

According to the Governor’s Office, the former Ambassador to Peru will be accompanied by his wife Momina and their three children. In keeping with tradition, Mr. Choudhury will be sworn in at the Legislative Assembly on the day of his arrival.

On the evening of 26 March, His Excellency The Governor and Mrs. Choudhury will attend a welcome reception in their honour, given by the Premier, Hon. Alden McLaughlin at Pedro Castle. The 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.reception is open to the public and will include live entertainment and refreshments.

“The Governor Designate and his family will be very welcome in the Cayman Islands and between good old-fashioned local hospitality and the warmth of the Caymanian people, we look forward to dazzling them,” said the Premier. “I speak on behalf of the entire Government in anticipating a productive partnership to ensure a prosperous and constructive future for the Cayman Islands.”

The Governor is expected to spend Tuesday, 27 March in a series of introductory meetings with Cabinet and senior government officials before attending a private welcome reception at Government House.

An all-day Sister Islands visit is scheduled for Wednesday, 28 March. The trip will involve the Governor touring Little Cayman and Cayman Brac in the company of senior Government officials.

Other district tours are currently being planned.

On Thursday, 29 March members of the local media will be invited to a press conference at Government House, for what is intended to be a brief and informal question and answer session.
