Elliott Elias, M.D., MPH, brings unique expertise in interventional echocardiography to Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute

MIAMI, FL – November 5, 2018 — Elliott Elias, M.D., MPH, an expert in interventional echocardiography, has joined Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida and the region’s largest and most comprehensive cardiovascular facility. Dr. Elias is fellowship-trained in interventional echocardiography — a form of non-invasive vascular imaging that is paramount in planning and guiding complex structural heart disease interventions. He completed his fellowship at the prestigious Columbia University Medical Center, Structural Heart and Valve Center, in New York, N.Y., one of the busiest structural heart disease programs in the United States with more than 800 procedures per year. Dr. Elias performs preoperative assessments and intraoperative imaging guidance of structural interventions, including transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacement, transcatheter mitral valve repair, transcatheter tricuspid valve interventions, left atrial appendage closure and paravalvular leak closure. He is board certified in echocardiography with level III certification and in nuclear cardiology and computed tomography.

“Interventional echocardiography is critical to the success of valvular heart disease procedures, and Dr. Elias has distinctive training and experience in this field,” said Jonathan Fialkow, M.D., deputy chief of Cardiology at Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute. “His superior cardiac imaging skills will enable our team to provide the highest level of care in the assessment and treatment of valve disorders.”

Dr. Elias earned a master’s degree in public health at Boston University School of Public Health and his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. In addition to fellowship training in interventional echocardiography at Columbia University Medical Center, Dr. Elias received fellowship training in cardiology at Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

“The expertise Dr. Elias brings to our care team is crucial to improving outcomes for structural heart disease,” said Allan S. Stewart, M.D., FACS, chief of cardiac surgery at Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute. “He will collaborate closely with interventional cardiologists, cardiac anesthesiologists and cardiac surgeons to provide our patients with the most innovative care.”

Dr. Elias also specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiovascular disease and its risk factors. He is affiliated with Baptist Hospital of Miami and South Miami Hospital and will see patients at 7400 SW 87 Avenue, Suite 100, in Miami.
