Dads have their day

ssssCharades 84The “Be a Dad Daily” campaign saw several fathers, and their children, come out to the Family Resource Centre (FRC) last Saturday (7 June 2014)

As a pre-Father’s Day event, participants of the FRC’s “Fathers First” programme were treated to an afternoon of family BBQ and games.

“Fathers First” is a voluntary training programme, over several weeks, that offers fathers from throughout the Cayman Islands an opportunity to learn, and share, techniques for improving communication and interacting more closely with their children. Sessions are held periodically throughout the year.

“Be a Dad Daily” encourages fathers to be more hands-on in their children’s lives. That campaign will run throughout the month of June, highlighting the ever-changing role of fathers.

Programme Coordinator Miriam Foster notes that children with active fathers are more confident, independent and less vulnerable to abuse. They are also more likely to be compassionate, with higher self-esteem and enhanced social skills.
