It was an unusual sight but it made St. George’s Anglican Church very proud to welcome not one, not two, but all three bishops from Jamaica.

The three bishops arrived for the Annual Corporation and Council Meeting that was held last Monday (4) and a reception followed in the evening in the church hall.

St George’s Anglican (Episcopal) Church, Courts Road, George Town, is part of the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands and is in full communion with the See of Canterbury, the Church of England, the Episcopal Church in the USA, and the Worldwide Anglican Communion.

The three Bishops, St. George’s welcomed were, Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Howard Kingsley Arthur Gregory, together with Suffragan Bishops Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert McLean Thompson (Kingston Region) and Rt. Rev. Leon Golding (Montego Bay Region).

The Master of Ceremonies for the reception was Lemuel Hurlston (Rector’s Warden& Trustee) who did an excellent job in moving the proceedings forward quickly in his usual quiet and efficient style with the occasional humorous quip.

Other attendees included members of the St. George’s congregation with Chief Justice of the Cayman Islands Anthony Smellie (Trustee), Herman Simpson (Trustee & Preschool Treasurer), Rev. Mary Graham and Magdalena Fernandes (Preschool Principal).

Honoured at the reception were Joy Oremule for all the work she had done as the Sunday School Superintendent up to her resignation this month, Astil Murphy and his wife (Gweneth) on their wedding anniversary and Dr. Desiree Charles for all the years of service she has done in many, many job descriptions for St. George’s.

It was a lovely evening and although St. George’s is going through a transition period owing to the retirement of past Rector Ven. Archdeacon Hollis Lynch, and waiting for the appointment of his replacement, Rev Mary Graham has been doing an admirable job throughout this time.

The church is vibrant, happy with a real focus on its youth.
