Cayman Islands Wind of Hope 5k nets CI$5k for foster home

George Town, Grand Cayman, : On Sunday 27th May over 300 people came together to take part in the 4th installment of the Wind of Hope Walk/Run bringing in over $5,000 in support of healthy eating habits of children living at the Nadine Andreas Residential Foster Home.

The Wind of Hope (WHO) is a charitable organization founded in March 2014. Its main aim is to deliver charitable contributions to non-profit organizations, groups of individuals, or individuals with causes that positively impact lives.

“We are so excited and happy that we could really come together as a team that we could accomplish that great task,” said Founder and Wind of Hope President, Paul Williams.

The non-profit group successfully raised funds in the past for the Pines Retirement Home and the Cayman Islands Red Cross through its annual walk/run event and this year monies will go to the Foster Homes pantry budget.

An athlete himself who also trains fellow runners, Mr. Williams says this is his passion. “This is what I want to do; using my talent along with the passion to train people to lead a healthier lifestyle is why I chose to put on the 5k, but I have a passion for the children also,” he said.

345 Athletic Club’s Abraham Whittaker and Okeeve Hamilton dominated the male runners winning first and second place respectively with times of 18:48.36 and 19:48.72. Third place went to Enrico Carmassi with a time of 20:07.88.

In the female runner’s category Catherine Hayward-Hughes took first place with a time of 24:08.74; taking second place a mere 15 seconds later was Oddy Grullon who clocked in at 24:23.21 and third place went to Yolande Lopez with a time of 25:59.90.
