Cayman Islands Girls’ PFL

pfl-playoffsday3-26-0901162016/2017 Girls’ Primary Football League (PFL) Opening Rally kicks-off this Weekend

The primary school girls will kick-off the 2016/2017 CUC primary school football season this Saturday, September 24th with the inaugural CUC Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) Opening Rally at the traditional home of local football, the T.E. McField Sports Field (Annex Field) in George Town beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The boys kick-off their season with the CUC Primary Football League (PFL) Opening Rally next Saturday, October 1st, also at the Annex Field, and the PFL and GPFL regular seasons will begin on Saturday, October 8th at venues across the Island.

This Saturday, it’s all about the girls as Sir John A. Cumber Primary ‘A’ begin their journey to avenge last year’s league loss to the talented young ladies from Cayman International School (CIS).

This will be the first year that the girls will be participating in an Opening Rally and organisers hope it will become an annual event to compliment the boys’ Opening Rally.

Opening rallies have always been highly entertaining and very competitive. The seven schools competing this Saturday include Cayman Prep, St. Ignatius Prep, Triple C, Savannah Primary, George Town Primary, two teams from Sir John A. Cumber Primary (A and B) and two teams from Prospect Primary (A and B).

Opening Rally this Saturday due to scheduling conflicts with a few of their players.

The Opening Rally is an exciting, fast-paced one-day tournament with games being a short 10 minutes per half with no off sides. Games must end with a winner. If games are tied at the end of the 20 minutes, penalties will decide the victor.

The first round of play is the group stage with schools divided into three groups of three schools. Schools play each other once in their respective groups with the top two teams from each group and the two best third place finishers advancing to the second round – the knockout stage. The knockout stage includes quarter finals, semi finals, the final and a third-place match.

The three groups of three schools include Zone A with Prospect Primary ‘A’, St. Ignatius Prep and Triple C; Zone B with George Town Primary, Prospect Primary ‘B’ and Sir John A. Cumber Primary ‘A’; and Zone C with Cayman Prep, Savannah Primary and Sir John A. Cumber Primary ‘B’.

The PFL Committee encourages fans of “the powerful game” and youth sports to make their way to the T.E. McField Sports Field (Annex Field) this Saturday to cheer on the young ladies.
