Cayman Islands: Extension of hours for bars and nightclubs selling liquor

beer-extensionIn accordance with a decision by the Liquor Licensing Board, liquor licence holders who operate bars and nightclubs can choose to extend their hours of business on Grand Cayman, as follows:

*         Retail (bar) licence holders: Premises can remain open until 2:00am, Mondays to Fridays, and until 12:00am on Saturdays and Sundays.

*         Retail (nightclub) licence holders: Premises can remain open until 4:00am, Mondays to Fridays, and until 12:00am on Saturdays.

Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) Senior Trade Officer Gavin Dixon noted that business owners will still need to curtail liquor sales at their premises towards the end of the operating hours, as per Section 11(8) of The Liquor Licensing Law (2000 Revision).

‘Licence holders need to remember that they still have to comply with the law and cease all liquor sales during the last ten minutes of their permitted hours. Standard liquor licensing and safety conditions will also apply’, said Mr Dixon, who also is the Board’s Acting Secretary.

Mr Dixon added that bar and nightclub owners, as well as other liquor licence holders, are reminded to apply for licence renewals early to avoid processing delays. The renewal deadline is Friday, 19 August 2016.

Prior to this deadline, licensees must have their premises inspected by relevant Government agencies. Depending on licensees’ particular operations, these inspections may include the Fire Service, Environmental Health, Planning Department, and Port Authority. Reports from these agencies should be submitted to the Liquor Licensing Board along with renewal applications.

Renewal applications are available from the Business Licensing Counter on the first floor of the Government Administration Building, and on DCI’s website, www.dci.gov.ky<http://www.dci.gov.ky>.

For more information, contact the Liquor Licensing Board through Mr Dixon on 244-3167 or DCI’s Renee Rankin on 244-6680.
