Cayman Islands Chamber wants you to nominate a teacher today for the 2018 Golden Apple Awards

Nominations are now open to the public for the 2018 Golden Apple Awards.

The Golden Apple Awards was first introduced in 2007 in partnership with the Ministry of Education, and returns this year with a gala ceremony at the Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman on Saturday, May 26.

“Last year we recognised the businesses in our community who did not get the credit they deserved with the Business Excellence Awards, and this year we want to celebrate the hard-working and inspirational educators who change the lives of young Caymanians,” said President Paul Byles.

“The Chamber is encouraging all members of the community to get involved to rally behind the teachers making our schools as successful as they are,” he added.

Nominations will be accepted until 23rd March, and nominees must be full-time educators or principals currently working in a public or private school. There are five different categories for parents, students, graduates, fellow teachers and members of the public for nominations, including:

• Primary School Teacher (Public School)

• Primary School Teacher (Private School)

• High School Teacher (Public School)

• High School Teacher (Private School)

• Principal (Public or Private School)

Past recipients are not eligible to be nominated in categories in which they have previously received an award, but are available to be nominated in a new category.

Nomination forms will be available in all schools and online athttp://www.caymanchamber.ky/goldenappleawards.html. Alternatively, you can request a physical form by contacting the Chamber at [email protected], or by collecting one from the Chamber’s offices in Governors Square between 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday.

There will also be an award recognising an outstanding educator’s commitment to education over the years with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Candidates for this award must be living, must have served a minimum of 25 years in education (15 of these in the Cayman Islands), and made significant contributions to the improvement of the educational environment.
