Cayman Brac Cert Training 19th – 23rd March

Hazard Management (HMCI) and the Red Cross (CIRC) will commence Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training in Cayman Brac on March 19th. Residents can sign up for the 5 day course for either the morning or evening sessions. The training is free and food and refreshments will be provided.

  • Group A from 9 am – 1 pm daily

  • Group B from 5 pm to 9 pm daily

This training is highly interactive and practical in nature. Participants will learn about basic disaster preparedness and response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, conducting damage assessments and community vulnerability assessments and first aid / CPR. Participants must complete the whole course in order to become a CERT member.

With the knowledge gained during the course, the Brac community will become more resilient to hazard occurrences. The CERTs will be able to assist the community to prepare and protect itself from hazards and lessen the effects of disaster events.

These skills are vital to a community especially when the country is impacted by a devastating event such as a major hurricane, and the emergency services are stretched and communities inaccessible. CERT training is designed to prepare the community to help itself, and to build self-sufficiency so the community can cope on its own resources for some period of time.

HMCI and CIRC recognize that everyone’s schedule differs so have planned a morning training and an evening training-with the intention that a participant can pick either Group A or B depending on their work schedule.
