Aquarium makes progress on Caribbean Journey exhibit

By Natalia E Contreras , Corpus Christi From Caller Times

The Texas State Aquarium hosted a media tour Wednesday of the progress made on the Caribbean Journey exhibit.

The Caribbean Journey is a $56 million expansion that is expected to open in May 2017.

“We are about 85 percent done,” said Kara Hahn, Texas State Aquarium manager of marketing and communications. “The Caribbean Journey expansion will also have an event and banquet space, a Starbucks and a deck with a view of the Corpus Christi bay.”

The 65,000-square-foot, four-story expansion includes a science, technology, engineering and math education center.

Officials said the expansion is expected to increase the aquarium’s economic impact to $69 million, to support 887 local jobs and to create 41 full-time jobs.
