Caribbean air to send temperatures soaring (-ish) following those recent Scandinavian blasts

By Phil Norris From Gloucestershire Live

Why go to the Caribbean when the Caribbean is coming to the UK?

Not exactly, of course, but warm air from the Caribbean is due to arrive and take the mercury above the seasonal average.

Don’t go planning any outdoor Calypso dancing, however, as the mercury will only rise to the mid-tens over the weekend.

It could reach around 12C in Gloucestershire on Sunday, with a mix of sun and cloud, so not exactly Death in Paradise weather.

But compared to some of the sub-zero weather we’ve had recently, it will be practically T-shirt weather.

Forecaster Hannah Findley, of The Weather Channel, said: “For the next few days, temperatures will be around normal for the time of year.

“However, over the weekend and into the early part of next week, temperatures in the UK are set to rise sharply after a warm front crosses on Saturday and peaks on Sunday.

“This is due to a south-westerly flow bringing in warm, Caribbean air masses.

“Temperatures could be more than 5C above normal for the time of year.

“It will feel mild across much of Europe due to the warm source of air.

“Some parts of southern Spain, Portugal and Italy could nudge 20C.”

The mercury should reach a high of 9C on Thursday, dip to 7C on Friday, then climb to 11C on Saturday and 12C on Sunday before falling to 10C on Monday.

It could be cold tonight, however, and the gritter lorries will be going out from 1am on Friday.
