The RCIPS regrets to inform that there has been another report of an incident of animal cruelty at the Equestrian Center in George Town, where a pony was found this morning (Fri 4) to have been sexually assaulted. An examination of the pony, named “Pebbles”, by a veterinarian from the Department of Agriculture confirmed the attack but informs that the pony does not appear to have life-threatening injuries. A subsequent examination by a private veterinarian also confirmed this finding.

The incident is under investigation. Police responded to the Equestrian Center this morning and took a full report, and also returned this afternoon to conduct further enquiries. This is the second incident at the Center following a similar incident last August, in which two ponies were similarly attacked. One of those ponies, known as “Charm”, had to be put down due to injuries sustained.

The investigation into the August incident has not yet led to an arrest.

“We understand the resonance these disturbing attacks have within the community. This kind of abuse of an animal is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated,” said Robert Graham, Superintendent of District Operations. “Officers are actively investigating these reports and any information members of the public may have, no matter how small, would be welcome.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call George Town CID at 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be provided via the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online at the link: https://www.tipsubmit.com/WebTips.aspx?AgencyID=681.
