Kidneys are one of the body’s major organs that play a vital role in the healthy functioning of the body system. However, kidneys are also prone to several diseases due to numerous factors, including poor eating habits, physical activity, or family history. It takes care of electrolyte balance, blood pressure, pH, and removing harmful elements from the body. This is one of the reasons why it is never too late when it concerns your kidneys.

Here are some tips if you want to maintain healthy kidneys through a healthy lifestyle.

Hydration

Keeping your body hydrated all the time is constantly emphasized by the doctors. Water intake plays a significant role in the health of your kidneys. Kidneys are responsible for removing harmful elements from the body with the help of water in the form of urine.

So an average intake of 3.7 liters of liquid for men and 2.7 liters of fluid for women are usually advised by the medics. Also, remember that drinking water is beneficial, but drinking way more than required can be stressful.

Physical Activity

Physical activity holds a lot of value in human life. The most helpful way to keep yourself active is by exercising. Working out regularly can help with well-maintained body weight, lower blood pressure and keep your heart healthy.

You can select the exercise according to your choices, such as simply walking, running, swimming, cycling, or aerobics. Although it is better to ask your fitness coach to provide a plan for you so that you don’t slack off or over-exert yourself.

Avoid Self Medication

Most health issues are beyond the control of over-the-counter medications. Many minor health issues usually lead to major ones. Even over usage of painkillers can damage your healthy kidneys.

Medical practitioners have complete knowledge about the medicines they recommend. For instance, they know who manufactures dexamethasone, if you need it or not, and what dose will be right for you. Drugs like dexamethasone are quite beneficial in treating kidney disorders if used in an appropriate way as said by the physician.

Dietary Intake

Your food intake is something that can save or ruin your kidneys. Edibles such as canned food or processed meats, bananas, potatoes, tomatoes, pickles, crackers, and instant meals are rich in potassium, sodium, and phosphorus that could be harmful to the kidneys with long-term intake. These foods must be avoided or taken in controlled portions.

In contrast, edibles such as blueberries, egg whites, red grapes, buckwheat, pineapple, onions, cauliflower, and cranberries are beneficial for the kidneys.

Blood Pressure

In many cases, the patients don’t even know that they are suffering from high blood pressure because they don’t bother to get it checked. But this could lead to significant kidney and heart problems. And if you are already suffering from heart disease, diabetes, or cholesterol, try to regularly keep your eyes on blood pressure. Prehypertension, if detected, can prove to be very useful in treating blood pressure by diet control and medications.

Your kidneys can stay as healthy as you keep them. Healthy eating and lifestyle habits will keep your kidney healthy and have a positive effect on your overall health. So try to take care of your kidneys if you don’t want to suffer from chronic kidney disease.
