‘Walkers Fundamentals’ returns to the US in November as Walkers’ leading series of hedge fund seminars goes ‘coast to coast’ with dates in New York and San Francisco.

The seminars feature two special ‘key note’ speakers, with television personality Ali Velshi – best known as the anchor of CNN’s ‘Your Money’-  appearing in New York and financial and economic expert Lawrence McDonald – best-selling author of ‘A Colossal Failure of Common Sense’ – speaking at the San Francisco seminar.

‘Walkers Fundamentals – Everything Offshore – Funds in 2014’ takes place at The Harvard Club in New York City on Tuesday November 5, 2013. The San Francisco event will be held at the Ritz Carlton on Tuesday November 12, 2013.

coast2coastLinkFeaturing on the agenda is a review of recent trends in the hedge fund space, based on a survey of the funds established by Walkers for clients in 2013. The survey reveals some enlightening insights surrounding structures, liquidity provisions, measures to deal with redemptions and the type of Cayman Islands vehicles favoured by the world’s leading investment managers.

Also up for discussion by Walkers’ partners will be the landscape pertaining to investment fund lending, as well as issues related to fund governance – a pivotal topic for the hedge fund industry at a time when CIMA is undertaking a consultation exercise aimed at raising standards of corporate governance to enhance transparency in the Cayman Islands financial services sector.

“We are delighted to be back in New York and San Francisco for this year’s ‘Walkers Fundamentals’ seminars and we look forward to sharing our insights with our clients and friends in the US,” commented Ingrid Pierce – Walkers’ Global Managing Partner. “Having come through such a challenging period following the global economic crisis, the hedge fund industry is upbeat, however managers looking to grow their business face significant hurdles, not least the ever increasing cost of compliance amid a swathe of recent international regulatory developments.

“The current environment certainly favours the bigger, more established global hedge fund managers, which have continued to perform well and attract new capital,” Ms. Pierce added. “New start-up managers have also been in the market to form new funds, however capital raising periods are longer as investors spend longer on the due diligence process.”

Launched in 2008, Walkers has hosted its annual ‘Walkers Fundamentals’ investment funds seminar in New York for the past five years. The seminar attracts investment fund managers and their professional advisers, providing unique insight into the hedge fund industry, global markets and international financial centres. With upwards of 300 attendees each year, the seminar has become a permanent fixture on the calendar for the hedge fund industry in New York City, the Tri-state area and the Cayman Islands. Walkers brought the Fundamentals seminar to San Francisco for the first time in 2012 and the event has been equally well received on the West Coast.

Admission to the Walkers Fundamentals seminars is free but by invitation only. To request an invitation or register, interested parties should email [email protected] .
