US seeks to extradite Jamaican to Cayman Islands

From RJR News

US law enforcement authorities are attempting to extradite a Jamaican to Cayman where he is wanted for manslaughter in relation to the death of a ward of the state three years ago.

According to documents filed with the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Larry Levers,46, was a supervisor at the Bonaventure Boys Home – the temporary living facility for at-risk children under the age of 16 in Cayman.

Court documents state that on November 29, 2015, Mr. Levers and a second supervisor took a 14-year-old boy and four others on a fishing trip.

During the excursion the teenager drowned.

Both men were placed on leave while police opened investigations into the death.

They face charges of manslaughter and child cruelty.

Levers reportedly left The British Overseas territory for Jamaica in September 2016.

However, according to court documents, Caymanian police traveled to Jamaica to interview Levers in July 2017, but he had already left the country for the U.S. earlier that month under a fake name.

Levers is scheduled to have a bond hearing in the US today.
