US Customs and Border Protection Agency steps up activities in the Caribbean

The US Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP) has reported that its Air and Marine Operations as well as task force partners have intercepted drug-laden vessels packed with thousands of  pounds of  cocaine and marijuana during targeted operations in the Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic in recent weeks.

CBP said the area of focus extends eastward from Southeast Texas to the US Virgin Islands and includes the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and a large portion of the Caribbean Sea.

According to Customs and Border Protection, the multi-agency operations, involved patrolling the seas and skies, intercepting contraband, catching smugglers as well as assisting in rescue and recovery operations.

Last year, CBP said its Air and Marine Operations enforcement actions resulted in the seizure or disruption in the movement of more than 250,000 pounds of cocaine and 384,000 pounds of  marijuana.
