TS Eta All Clear for Grand Cayman

ETA Forecast track NHC

Grand Cayman (GIS) – The Deputy Governor and the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) state that the All Clear for Grand Cayman for Tropical Storm Eta is expected to be given at 4 pm due to improving wind and rain conditions with Tropical Storm Eta moving north of the island.

However, once the storm passed Grand Cayman, the storm has strengthened and the storm conditions remain for the Sister Islands through this evening and into tonight. Persons in the Sister Islands entities should remain cautious about ensuing strong weather conditions.

Additionally, authorities are asking people on Grand Cayman to continue remaining off the roads to help authorities and utilities to complete their damage assessment and effect repairs and complete road clearing. People are therefore asked to be mindful of road closures as there are areas that require attention that the authorities are currently engaged in providing.

Marine conditions are expected to remain severe and residents on all three islands are strongly asked to stay away from the coastal areas and refrain from getting into the water. A small craft advisory remains in effect.

Coastal conditions will be monitored to see when the all clear can be given.

Deputy Governor, Hon. Franz Manderson said, “It looks the worst from Tropical Storm Eta is over for Grand Cayman but the threat of severe weather continues for the Sister Islands, especially since the storm strengthened after it passed by Grand Cayman and has moved further north.

“Please be mindful of road closures and continue to remain off the roads on Grand Cayman as authorities check for any damage, downed power lines and road conditions for the next several hours. Also please keep away from all coastal areas as dangerous waves will continue.”
