Top briefings from The Lawyer this week

Briefings Digest
‘The coronavirus simply accelerated what we already knew: that legal teams need and deserve better technology to collaborate,’ says Everlaw this week in How collaboration will aid legal professionals in a post-pandemic world . The need for legal tech/collab solutions is likely to become more pressing too, once clients get hold of this little fact from Harvard Law School’s Heidi Gardner: the more that law firm practice groups collaborate in serving a client, the greater the client’s average annual revenue. That’s right, Gardner’s research found that as a result of collaboration, client revenue increased over and above what each practice would have earned from selling discrete services. Stay in the loop by reading the briefing.

Similarly, in Overcoming the pandemic relationship challenge , TPC Leadership’s Tom Bird explains the client benefits of staying connected with colleagues. Cross-practice networking and discussions between lawyers and their clients are at risk of happening only when there are specific things to cover, and client relationships are suffering as a result. Many clients are admitting to feeling frustrated by the lack of personal contact and receiving too many standardised messages from their law firm. Find out more by reading Bird’s post.

Schillings’ Rachel Atkins discusses how remote working has put leaders’ resilience to the test. When something goes wrong it is much easier to pick yourself up and deal with it in an office but working from home means we’re now at risk of spiralling negative thoughts. Read How to remain resilient and pass on a resilient mindset to your team for more information.

Elsewhere, Temple Legal Protection’s David Chase discusses client expectations around ‘value’ in the context of litigation, and why this isn’t actually about price. In Value – what are your expectations of a litigation insurance provider?, Chase gives reasons why reducing costs is not always the best deciding factor in litigation insurance.

Last up this week, Collyer Bristow’s Imogen Jones discusses Climate Justice, a growing risk for companies that are considered to be major contributors to climate change. Activists in the UK are coming together to use litigation to bring about change in these companies. Businesses need to be aware of their exposure to such litigation and what the business implications are.

More of this week’s top briefings are listed below, and all our curated ones can be found here . The fog blotted out the northern sun for most of last week, but it came out strong by the end. I hope you get to top up your vitamin D levels with some sunbeams wherever you are; if not, here’s some from J Dilla.
