This Caribbean Premier urgently needs the help of linesmen

From NAN

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Oct. 13, 2017:Hurricanes Irma and Maria left several islands without power as the storms took down electrical poles and left a tangled mess of downed poles and electrical wires in its wake. Now one Caribbean premier is issuing a call for qualified linesmen to help.

Premier Dr. Orlando Smith, of the British Virgin Islands, made the call on Irie Jam radio over the weekend, as part of the Caribbean Day of Giving radiothon.

Building experts such as electricians, contractors, plumbers, engineers, architects or anyone in the building profession are asked to volunteer with the Ministry of Health and Social Development’s Social Housing Programme through their expertise, time and services, the government said on its Facebook page.  Interested persons can call or Whatsapp 1-284-468-9854 to register.

The British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC)’s grid was severely compromised resulting in an island-wide power outage but the company is slowly but surely making headway in restoring power weeks after the storms.

The news comes as the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport resumed commercial flights from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily as of Oct. 11, 2017.
