LONDON, England, Friday August 12, 2016 – No Caribbean airline made the list, but some of the carriers we often use to go see the rest of the world, did. And it was the Asian airlines that came out on top.

With a customer satisfaction score of 85 percent, Garuda Indonesia was named the “most-loved” airline in the world based on passenger reviews of 80 carriers worldwide on the airline rating website Skytrax.

The survey asked passengers to rate airlines in eight categories, including seat comfort, food and beverage, in-flight entertainment, Wi-Fi availability and value.

Garuda Indonesia was followed by South Korea’s Asiana Airlines and Taiwan’s EVA Air, with passenger satisfaction scores of 83 percent and 81 percent respectively.

Rounding out the top five were Athens-based Aegean Airlines, which was the highest-rated European airline, and Korean Air at 80 percent and 79 percent respectively.

The rest of the top 10 went to Asian airlines, with Bangkok Airways in sixth place, Singapore Airlines in seventh, Malaysia-based AirAsia X in eighth, Japan’s All Nippon Airways in ninth and Royal Brunei Airlines in tenth.

Virgin America was the top North American airline, placing 15th with a satisfaction score of 72 percent.

The top British airline was no-frills carrier Jet2 in 26th spot with a score of 68 percent, way ahead of the UK’s flagship carrier British Airways which placed 58th with a satisfaction score of 56 percent.

Overall, the low-cost carriers gave a good account of themselves, with EasyJet placing 30th (67 percent), Monarch in the 45th spot (61 percent) and Flybe in 52nd place (57 percent).

Dublin-based Ryanair, which placed 41st with a score of 62 percent, has improved considerably in the last year and now scores six percent higher than British Airways, according to Skytrax.

In a separate review last month, Skytrax named Emirates the best airline in the world ahead of Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.

Emirates ranked 35th, with a satisfaction score of 63 percent, in this month’s passenger-rated review.

Skytrax has been rating airlines since 1999 and is recognized by the aviation industry for its coveted annual awards.
