Note the words “a public figure in the Cayman Islands”.

The above RCIPS PR had the time 4:36 PM.

Note the words “a senior member of the government”.

The above RCIPS PR had the time 3:34 PM.

In one hour our “senior member of government” had been changed to “a public figure in the Cayman Islands”.

Was that revised description of the ‘mysterious’ person’ supposedly done to widen the field as to who this person really is?

A little bit late and entirely unnecessary, makes the whole affair worse and widens the social media debate as to whether a police/government cover up is being executed.

Of course, everybody knows who this senior member of government – whoops! So sorry. I meant, who this public figure in the Cayman Islands is.

I wasn’t going to mention who this member/figure is but we have now received a public statement from this member/figure. Here it is in full – please see below. However, playing on the side of safety, as there is an ongoing police investigation, I am not going to tell you, although there is a name at the bottom of this Public Statement.

I trust you readers will not be too shocked. Please see attached.

UPDATED: TUE 25 FEB 2020

Of course, our Social Media are baying like wolves (including a public figure) for the above to resign immediately or be removed. I knew that would be forthcoming. Members of the Legislative Assembly who do not immediately accede to this are labelled as “cowards”.

This sort of mentality goes back to all ages and shows nothing has changed. One cannot wait for the end of an inquiry. It has to be done now.

However, what does make me angry is where some of the social media has attacked the above public figure’s cry for help regarding his assertion of depression on the account of his loss of his child in “tragic circumstances”.

I can tell you that no matter how many years pass, after you suffer the loss of a loved one, especially a child, the depression of that event will stay with you forever.

My wife is going through that at the moment, losing her son just before Christmas (and now her youngest son is still in hospital since Christmas). Her depression is so severe I can only pray it will eventually lessen or she will learn to cope with it. I know it will never cease. A very dear and close friend of ours, a Caymanian, lost her son tragically, many years ago. The memory of that loss is still with her. A very dear friend of mine in the UK (such a dear friend that Joan and I held our wedding reception in her house) lost her daughter tragically and just a few years ago one of her sons committed suicide.

We all deal with these tragedies differently but we all get depressed. If someone who has suffered this dreadful happening in their lives and mentions it as an excuse to what is happening to them mentally and their excessive drinking and other abnormal behaviour, DO NOT DECRY IT. YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE GOING THROUGH! Never be the judge and the jury, especially if you have never been through it yourself or been very, very close to someone who has.
