The Editor Speaks: I am amazed

Watching and listening to the Legislative Assembly debate last Thursday left me amazed.

I was amazed at the power of his name – Hon. McKeeva Bush – Leader of the Opposition.

I was amazed at the power of his (Hon McKeeva Bush’s] love to attack the Auditor General Alastair Swarbrick for DOING HIS JOB!

I was amazed at the power of his blood curdling outrageous attacks on the Auditor General Alastair Swarbrick.

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh I was amazed the Hon. Speaker of the House Julianna O’Connor-Connolly allowed the Hon. McKeeva Bush to continue for over an hour to make a ”personal explanation’ that was no explanation but a personal attack that carried the privileges of saying libelous verbiage without fear of reprisals.

This was the second time the Speaker allowed Bush to do this and I can only wonder what personal agenda she has for making this decision.

Even when Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member Winston Connolly interjected and pointed out Bush, who is also a member of the same committee, was going well beyond a personal explanation she allowed Bush to continue. This was after the chairman of PAC, Roy McTaggart, had tried unsuccessfully to stop Bush from even starting his “personal explanation”.

His “personal explanation” was on the publication of the Auditor’ General’s report on the management of the Nation Building Fund (NBF) Programme that operated from 2009 through early 2013 under the Bush administration.

There is a huge difference on an “explanation “ over an “attack” and I am amazed how Julianna O’Connor-Connolly at her age and experience does not know the difference.

Bush has even threatened to sue the Auditor General and anyone else who publishes the details of the report on the management of the Nation Building Programme.

The details of the Auditor General’s report can be found under our Front Page titled “Cayman Islands Auditor General highly critical of NBF / Premier and Dep. Governor’s response”. We have published only an excerpt from it due to its length and we have provided the weblink where you can download a copy of it.

Bush admitted he had managed to delay the publication of the Report a few days and therefore managed to get his “explanation” made public before it exploded into the media headlines last Friday.

He called the Report “Toxic”. It was part of a “Witch Hunt” against him. It was “Utterly Wrong”. It was a “Fraud”. It “Glosses Over The Truth”. It “Slandered Civil Servants”. It was “Worthless”. It was “Biased”. The Auditor General should “Apologize”. “There was no evidence to support the claims”

Bush said the Fund was there to “help churches and young people to go to college instead of jail”. He didn’t point out he personally administered it before an election was looming. He didn’t point out the church he attended received the bulk of the funds. He didn’t point out what criteria there was for some people getting more than others and why some were refused.

I have illustrated Bush’s so called explanations that amount to no explanation at all.

As for there being no evidence please read the Report yourself. When you do it makes the Opposition Leader look exactly as he is. It gives no credit whatsoever to the Speaker for allowing it.

And yes I am amazed. “Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh I Am Amazed”.

I do apologize for causing any offence in comparing a beautiful gospel song about our Lord Jesus Christ to our own Hon. McKeeva Bush.
