The Editor Speaks: CIFA finances scrutinized

Colin Wilsonweb2Whilst the Cayman Islands Football Association’s (CIFA) books are undergoing a forensic review by FIFA-appointed auditors, it’s acting President Bruce Blake, has stated he will remain at his post until new elections are called in May.

What is his purpose in staying put until then?

He has implied he has unfinished business but not said what that is.

Whether this FIFA audit is going to satisfy Sports Minister Osbourne Bodden’s condition of an independent forensic audit to be executed on the CIFA accounts before government give them any more monies remains to be seen.

A well known leading local auditor described FIFA’s examination of the CIFA accounts as “poacher turned gamekeeper”. A very fit description considering the tarnished reputation the FIFA organization has with its past president, Blatter, still saying he “knows nothing”.

Blatter would not be out of place in the 1960’s “Hogan Heroes” American television sitcom set in a German prisoner of war. He would have made an excellent
Sgt. Schultz! He knew nothing but some times “knew something”.

A CIFA release said, “CIFA is assisting FIFA with its review and investigation and have provided its agents full access to CIFA’s books and records

“This was followed by a meeting of CIFA officials and FIFA officials in Zürich last week Thursday to discuss the next steps. A visit by FIFA appointed auditors is expected within the next six weeks to conduct a forensic review of CIFA financial transactions and review its new policies and procedures and to make recommendations.”

CIFA also claims FIFA and its attorneys “have expressed appreciation to CIFA for its cooperation and have acknowledged CIFA’s significant administrative and financial control improvements.”

That’s a nice pat on the back but none of this gives the rest of us skeptics any grounds to be convinced all is now well.

CIFA’s Vice-President. Peter Campbell, is still there even after it was revealed the company he owned, Black Holdings Ltd., was the one that had received around $250,000 from CIFA in a transfer of cash that involved AIS Cayman Ltd. This was the company owned and created by the found corrupt Canover Watson and the even more corrupt Jeff Webb that they used to secure the CarePay contract with the Cayman Islands hospital.

I expect Campbell is there too as he has some unfinished business to take CARE of.

I can only assume that both Blake and Campbell are giving 100% of their time to help the Cayman Islands football to progress and go forward with force.

“May the Force be with you”.

You have been forced to have your accounts scrutinized.
