The Chinese Want to Replicate Guernsey’s Funds Sector

The Chinese government is so impressed by the way British island Guernsey regulates its hedge funds that it plans to replicate that system for its own funds sector.

Investment Europe reported that the Shanghai Municipal Services Office has enlisted Guernsey-based firm International Administration Group to help the Chinese government better understand and regulate its private equity and hedge fund firms.

Julian Carey, managing director of IAG’s Hong Kong office, said that IAG were in discussions with the country’s Financial Services Office on improving the reporting and governance standards in China.

With offices in Guernsey, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Cayman Islands, IAG provides fund administration services to investment funds and managers based in Europe and Asia.
