The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism hosts “Cayman Kickoff” football tryouts

image001Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, November 24, 2014 – The CDFL / Team America announces an exclusive “Open American Football Tryout” for prospective Caymanian players interested in participating in the 2015 “Cayman Kickoff” football game. The tryout is scheduled for Tuesday, 2 December, from 7:00- 8:30 PM at Grand Cayman’s Truman Bodden Sports Complex, and those who make it through the tryout process will have a chance to play in the “Cayman Kickoff” football game at 7 p.m. on 10 January 2015.

Tryouts will consist of non-contact drills to evaluate player readiness for the sport of American football, including:

  • Speed testing – 40 yard dash
  • Agility and speed testing
  • Cross fit training to measure conditioning level
  • Skill demonstration and one-on-one drills specific to position
  • Reaction drills
  • Power strength, flexibility and balance measurement
  • Interview to measure desire, attitude, teamwork, sportsmanship

“The “Cayman Kickoff” has great support from the Cayman Islands’ Ministries of Tourism and Sports,” remarked George St. Lawrence, Co-Founder of the CDFL and “Team America.” “We are excited to be part of the Cayman Islands family and we’re looking forward to interacting with the Caymanian people, players and fans in a positive cultural exchange through American style football.”

All players must be 18 years of age or older and bring appropriate identification for age verification. All players should come outfitted in a t-shirt, shorts and athletic shoes. There is no cost to try out. The session will last approximately 90 minutes. Players will sign a waiver release/ medical form indicating they are physically fit to participate.
