Technology in Two70 aboard Quantum of the Seas

starwater7By Marian Sandberg From Live Design

Moment Factory created Starwater in collaboration with Royal Caribbean International for the Two70° lounge aboard the new smartship Quantum of the Seas. The production launched on the ship’s maiden voyage on October 31, 2014, and is the first original theatrical show created entirely by Moment Factory in collaboration with Royal Caribbean.

Starwater was inspired by the beauty of the sea and the skies, and as designed for maximum wow-factor in Quantum’s 400-seat great room Two70°. Moment Factory’s creative team, in collaboration with RCI’s entertainment directors, created a narrative inspired by the The Muse, Starwater’s protagonist. Balancing strength and beauty, she takes the audience on an almost hour-long experiential multimedia journey. The show features the latest immersive technologies, as well as 16 performing artists including singers, dancers, aerialists, and a cellist.

Control is via a High End Systems Full Boar 4 console with playback wing and DP 8000 DMX processor.

The lighting rig features Elation Platinum Wash ZFX Pros, Platinum Wash ZFX ProXLs, Satura Spot LED Pros, Platinum Beam 5R Extremes, Platinum Spot LED Pro IIs; Martin Professional MAC Viper Wash DX und MAC Viper Performance units, ETC Source Four LED Tungsten units and LED Lustr+ fixtures, Selador Vivid-R 63″ and 21″ units; Martin Professional Atomic 3000s, Exterior 430 UVs, and MAC Viper DXs, and MAC Viper Profiles; American DJ InnoScan LEDs; Lycian followspots; Martin Magnum Club Smoke Bases and Heads, and Le Maitre MVS Hazers.

two270Beyond Starwater, Moment Factory integrated the latest technologies into a continuous entertainment production. During day, Two70° is available for guests to relax and enjoy the panoramic multi-story views of the ocean. Engineered specifically for Quantum, Vistarama is a backdrop of floor-to-ceiling windows in Two70° that transform at night with descending screens, forming an ambient surface over 100′ wide and over 20′ tall. Six mobile Roboscreens, each measuring over seven feet high and controlled by powerful robotic arms, form additional platforms for projections, featuring stunning digital vignettes created by Moment Factory, as well as interacting live with performers during the Starwater show. Moment Factory’s Starwater and accompanying digital shorts are paving the way for a new era in cruise entertainment.

Quantum bills itself as the most technologically advanced cruise ship to date, with broadband internet access, digital wristbands to tracks passengers’ movements and purchases, as well as personalized mobile apps. Their entertainment options therefore had to reflect this innovative approach. Moment Factory was a natural partner to
deliver a turn-key solution – combining innovative art direction, the latest digital entertainment tools, and top-notch performers resulting in a powerful one-of-akind show.
