Cayman Islands National Trust Wraps Up Summer Fun

The National Trust/Art Nest Camp 2017, titled “Art of Nature”, was one of the last opportunities for children to enjoy weeks of supervised summer fun.

Held at the Trust’s operational base, adjacent to the popular seaside location of Dart Park, it offered a range of nature and heritage-based arts and craft activities, outings, and festive events.

The four weeks of camp catered to about 100 young participants.

There were stimulating and educational outings during this unified effort, which was held in conjunction with the Department of the Environment, the National Gallery, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Red Sails Sports and Sea Elements, with daily field trips to locales such as the North Sound, the fine-arts centre, and Dart’s recycling plant.

Camp Counsellor Catherine Childs, said, “We enjoyed four weeks of fun-filled adventure exploring nature and heritage while expressing ourselves through art. We are truly thankful to our sponsors for making such an enriching camp possible”.

Some subjects studied included the patterns of migratory birds, Blue Iguana conservation, and marine preservation.

The camp was supported by Bank of Butterfield and Dart – which sponsored the participation of children selected by Acts of Random Kindness (ARK) – as well as other companies and government agencies.
