District Administration held its Annual Hurricane Preparedness Exercise on Friday morning May 4^th 2012 in Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.

In attendance were the Deputy Premier and Minister for District Administration, Works, Lands, and Agriculture the Hon. Juliana O’Connor Connolly, Acting Deputy Chief Officer Mr. Jonathan Jackson, District Commissioner Mr. Ernie Scott, Deputy District Commissioner Mr. Mark Tibbetts, Works Manager Mr. Noli Cruz, and Deputy Works Manager Mr. Justin Bodden.

The exercise was fully attended by Sister Islands Public Works staff and commenced at 7am.

In Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, 53 government buildings were shuttered or verified as ready for storm season; 45 in Brac and 8 in Little Cayman.

The entire exercise was completed in a record time of 2 hours and 58 minutes as compared to last year time of 3 hours and 42 minutes.

The exercise consisted of 12 teams including Little Cayman and other statutory agency support personnel.

Team #2 was the fastest team that completed their task and is headed by Team Inspector Mr. Jeff Jaeger covering West End Primary School Shelter and Classrooms, and Two Government Cottages.

Team #2 completed their task in 1(one) hour & 45 minutes. The team members include the following:

“The time to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season is now,” advised Deputy Premier and Minister of District Administration, Works, Land and Agriculture, the Hon. Julianna O’Connor Connolly, JP. Lauding Sister Islands’ District Administration and PWD staff for their attention and diligence in this year’s drill, the Deputy Premier urged all businesses and families on the two islands to similarly ensure their structures are protected. “While we pray for a safe and minimal hurricane season, we cannot become complacent or take anything for granted,” she emphasised.
