It could be called The Curse Of The Black Pearl, for the schooner that appeared with Jonny Depp in the Pirates Of The Caribbean films has sunk.

The Brig Unicorn went down in a freak accident as she was sailing from St Lucia to St Vincent for repairs.

No one was injured in the sinking on Friday and all nine crew members and captain on board are understood to have been rescued by accompanying ships.

The Brig Unicorn played The Henrietta in the first Pirates Of The Caribbean film, The Curse Of The Black Pearl, and The Terrasaw in the second and third instalments of the hugely popular series.

She was used as a slave ship in the 1970s TV series Roots.

The 148ft vessel was built in Finland in 1948 to carry cargo but in the 1970s was sailed out to the Caribbean and based in St Lucia.

The softwood schooner “had made St Lucia proud” said Captain Sam Alleyne after her appearance in the Pirates films which starred Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.

The Brig Unicorn had become a tourist attraction on the Rodney Bay Marina in St Lucia where she was used as a bar and restaurant.

The first Pirates Of The Caribbean film, The Curse Of The Black Pearl, was released in 2003 to positive reviews. It grossed $654million across the world.

The 2006 sequel, Dead Man’s Chest, was the number one film of the year, earning more than a billion dollars.

Two more instalments, At World’s End and On Stranger Tides, have been made and a fifth episode, Dead Men Tell No Tales, is in the pipeline.
