“Serinity launches at Cayman Islands Ritz-Carlton

Laurel at workNew art exhibition ‘Serinit’ launches at The Ritz-Carlton Gallery

Talented local artist Laurél Schmid heads an impressive line-up of home-grown talent exhibiting at The Gallery at the Ritz-Carlton’s latest art exhibition entitled ‘Serenity’, which is scheduled for a January opening.
Originally from Wisconsin in the United States, Laurél graduated with a B.A. in Graphic Design and has over 20 years of experience as a graphic artist.
“I’ve been creative for as long as I can remember, and always preferred art class over other subjects in school,” she confirms. “As far as I can tell, my design roots may be from my grandparents on my Mom’s side as they loved to take road trips throughout the States and when they passed we discovered an awesome sketch book in the closet.”
Laurél typically creates in acrylic but also works with coloured pencil and watercolor and her artwork has been exhibited and sold throughout the Cayman Islands and has been collected locally and internationally. She has also been a board member of the Visual Arts Society.
She states: “Whether it’s cloud formations, a storm over the sea, or the shifts in sunlight, every day is different in Cayman and the vivid colours and tropical surroundings provide much of my inspiration.” She adds: “I create and paint from my heart. To have the end result noticed and enjoyed by someone is a tremendous compliment and truly humbling!”
Chris Christian, Director at The Gallery at The Ritz-Carlton, is delighted to have an artist of Laurél’s talent headlining at this latest exhibition, slated for opening on 12th January, 2016.
“Laurél possesses a truly exceptional talent, especially when it comes to capturing the natural environment. Her artwork definitely sums up the ‘Serenity’ theme for this latest exhibition and I encourage everyone to come and view the exhibition. We have in total 45 talented artists exhibiting, which means we will be offering incredible diversity and creativity within the theme. All artwork is for sale so everyone can take home a piece of ‘Serenity’ for themselves.”
