Sandals wins top accolades at WT awards – Cayman misses out in all categories

Sandals Resorts International Receives Top Accolades At World Travel Awards Caribbean & North America Gala

Luxury Included® Resort Company Named Caribbean’s Leading Hotel Brand For 20 Consecutive Years

The Bahamas shone bright at this year’s World Travel Awards and North American Gala Ceremony (WTA) as Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma took a top spot as “Leading Conference Hotel”, making this the first resort in Sandals’ brand to ever clinch the category at these awards.

Also, for the third consecutive year, Sandals Emerald Bay was named the “Caribbean’s Leading Luxury All-Inclusive Resort”. It also came away with the award for being the “Bahamas’ Leading Golf Resort”.

On New Providence Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort and Offshore Island received awards for being the “Caribbean’s Leading Resort”, and for the third consecutive year and fifth time overall, grabbed top spot as the “Bahamas’ Leading Spa Resort”.

Sandals Resorts International (SRI) was honored with prestigious recognition at this year’s WTAs held on September 14, 2013 at Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa. The Luxury Included® Resort Company collected an unprecedented total of 14 awards, demonstrating the continued success and evolution of its resorts. In addition to this distinguished accomplishment, SRI once again received the notable recognition of Caribbean’s Leading Hotel Brand, thus earning this title for 20 consecutive years.

With a total of 14 trophies from this year’s awards ceremony, more than any year past, Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts rose above other highly acclaimed hotel brands and even claimed a first-time award in the “Leading Conference Hotel” category. The Caribbean resort company’s top honors included:

Caribbean’s Leading Hotel Brand: Sandals Resorts International  (20th consecutive year)

Caribbean’s Leading Luxury All-Inclusive Resort: Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma, Bahamas  (3rd consecutive year)

Caribbean’s Leading All-Inclusive Family Resort: Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages & Spa (3rd consecutive year)

Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Resort: Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa (4th consecutive year)

Caribbean’s Leading Resort: Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort & Offshore Island, Bahamas

Caribbean’s Leading Conference Hotel: Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma, Bahamas

Antigua & Barbuda’s Leading Resort: Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa (3rd consecutive year, 4th time overall)

Bahamas’ Leading Spa Resort: Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort & Offshore Island  (3rd consecutive year, 5th time overall)

Bahamas’ Leading Golf Resort: Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma, Bahamas

Jamaica’s Leading Resort: Sandals Royal Plantation, Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Jamaica’s Leading Spa Resort: Sandals Whitehouse European Village & Spa

St Lucia’s Leading Resort: Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa & Beach Resort  (4th consecutive year)

St Lucia’s Leading Spa Resort: Sandals Regency La Toc Golf Resort & Spa  (5th time)

Turks & Caicos’ Leading Resort: Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages & Spa (5th time)

The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 for the express purpose of acknowledging and celebrating achievements in all areas of the world’s travel and tourism industry and are hailed as “the Oscars of the travel industry.” This year’s voting campaign reached a total of 348,325 travel professionals and consumers worldwide in more than 22 countries. Nominations for this year’s World Travel Awards were based on the previous year’s voting.
