The Royal Navy said this was the second large scale drug bust for RFA Wave Knight during her year deployed in the Caribbean, where she was working alongside Royal Navy frigate HMS Lancaster.

LONDON, England, Thursday January 9, 2014, CMC – The British Royal Naval says its support ship Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Wave Knight has seized marijuana with a street value of about £1 million from a suspect vessel in the Caribbean.

On Wednesday, the Royal Navy said that the ship, which had US Coastguard Law Enforcement and Royal Navy personnel on board, began chasing the suspect vessel, Miss Kameney, on Christmas Day before catching up and boarding her the following day.

The US Coast Guard officers found around a quarter of a tonne of marijuana hidden in sacks on board, and immediately detained the crew of five on board RFA Wave Knight, the Royal Navy said.

It said a joint riding crew of US Coast Guard and Royal Fleet Auxiliary then “sailed the Miss Kameney and her illegal cargo to be delivered to US authorities in the Dominican Republic along with the suspected smugglers.”

The Royal Navy said this was the second large scale drug bust for RFA Wave Knight during her year deployed in the Caribbean, where she was working alongside Royal Navy frigate HMS Lancaster and the international authorities to disrupt illegal activities in the Caribbean Sea
