Regal Cinema Camana Bay can extend Sunday hours

lrg_4759_movie_lobby_LRAn amendment to the Cinematograph Law – see attachments – has meant Cayman Islands only cinema, The Regal, Camana Bay, can now show movies until midnight on Sundays instead of having to stop at 9pm.

This will mean they can add an extra show.

However the films shown can only be ones designated by the British or American Film Censorship Authorities as suitable for viewing by children aged seventeen years and under. Therefore ‘R’ rated movies will still not be allowed to be shown on Sundays.

Financial Services Minister, Wayne Panton, made the announcement on Monday in the Legislative Assembly, and said amendments to the regulations also will clarify the licence structure including both changing and increasing fees.

The fee is being increased from $1,000 per annum to $1,500 and will now be per screen and not per movie house.

The previous age limit of sixteen years to watch ‘R’ has been raised to seventeen years.
