Twelve student videos will be posted online and the student with the most votes will be named the winner of the 2016 People’s Choice Award and receive a prize pack courtesy of CayFilm and the Department of Commerce and Investment. Voting starts at 9 a.m. on 16 May and runs through until 11 June. To access the link, the public can go to artscayman.org/young-image-makers, as well as visit Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (all are @caymanculture).

Hosted by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation the YIM competition provides youngsters, ages 10 to 17, with the opportunity to sharpen their technical film skills and explore their creativity.

The finalists have participated in a workshop, where they learned about tricks and tools of the craft from industry professionals like local filmmakers Judy Singh and Josh Pearl, and had each of their films critiqued.

The young filmmakers are also taking part in an additional video challenge. Each of them will submit a “Cayman Through My Eyes” short film for an opportunity to compete for a summer movie camp experience at the New York Film Academy. The “Cayman Through My Eyes” (CTME) Video Challenge is a Department of Tourism programme, which encourages young filmmakers to create a positive short film, one to three minutes in length, about the Cayman Islands. The Department of Tourism is also the major sponsor for Young Image Makers this year.

All winners will be announced at a spectacular red carpet affair and film screening event at the Harquail Theatre on 30 June, kicking off the CayFilm weekend. Visit www.artscayman.org/young-image-makers for more information.
