PS Audio: Octave Records Clay Rose Live

Clay Rose Live at Dharma Barn was a tough show to record. Clay’s lyrics are so raw and real and his vocal delivery is so emotionally charged, I found myself tearing up through his performance multiple times. The music sucked my attention right in and made it hard to focus on the job. I wasn’t the only one feeling the intensity of the music. Clay stopped during the show and needed to leave the stage. We weren’t sure he would finish the show, but Paul walked outside with him, put his arm around him and encouraged him while the audience upstairs chanted for his return. Clay did return to deliver the rest of his heart-felt show. When someone feels so deeply, this is exactly the kind of music we search for, exactly the kind of music we want to capture.
Recording in DSD256 is always a treat. Being able to preserve so clearly and realistically a moment of such moving music on the Pyramix system through a classic Coles Ribbon microphone and Neuman U67s reignites my love for recording music in high-definition. The results are incomparable.
I hope you’ll go give this one a listen, even the samples on the website reflect the beauty of this recording.

THE ARTIST
Clay Rose
Americana
Clay Rose, frontman for the Gasoline Lollipops, gives us a raw, emotional performance of darkly-stained poetry straight from his soul. The beauty of DSD256 truly shines in the simplicity of Live at Dharma Barn. This awe-inspiring recording quality seems to capture the miles that have been put on Clay’s guitar from years of touring and the experiences of his life can be heard in the nuance of his voice. Recorded live by Paul McGowan, this album is a work of art and an instant classic.
