Powell excited for return to track at Cayman Islands Invitational

From Sportsmax

Former world record holder Asafa Powell is excited to make a return to the track at this weekend’s Cayman Invitational meet.

The 35-year-old will be competing for the first time this season after sustaining a hamstring injury in February. The sprinter also missed out on the Commonwealth Games in April but is now eager to get back to starting blocks.

“I’m excited to come to Cayman again, and to be a part of this world-class event,” said Powell of the meet.

“The Cayman Islands has always been one of my favourite places in the West Indies and I’m really looking forward to returning this weekend,” added the sprint star.

Powell, who has been plagued by injury for the past few years, remains the athlete with the most sub-10 clockings at 97. The 34-year-old is still on the hunt to reach 100 sub-10 clockings but last recorded a time under 10 second two years ago. The Cayman Invitational will run off this weekend. Two other Jamaicans in Senoj-Jay Givans and Tyquendo Tracey, along with Caymanian Kemar Hyman and Keston Bledman from Trinidad and Tobago are also in the field.
