A pioneering group of Royal Cayman Islands Police Service recruits undergoing intensive theoretical and practical training will graduate next week.

Open to invitees, guests and recruits’ immediate families, the graduation will take place at the Harquail Theatre Thursday, 17 July 2014.

Scheduled to attend are the Governor, Mrs. Helen Kilpatrick; the Premier and Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Alden McLaughlin; the Deputy Governor, Hon. Franz Manderson; the Commissioner of Police, Mr. David Baines; other senior government and police officials.

Following a march-past and salute by the recruits, and inspection by the Governor and Commissioner of Police, the formal graduation ceremony will take place inside the theatre.

RCIPS Training Manager Andrew Harrison explained that in addition to classroom lessons for 12 weeks since the end of March 2014, the recruits have also been getting on-the-job training with personal tutor constables.

The officers will return to their assigned stations and tutor constables for a further six-week assessment period starting 28 July 2014. After successful completion, each officer will be deemed ‘fit for independent patrol’.

During this period as well as throughout the rest of their two year probationary period, the officers’ work will be continually monitored by RCIPS management, Mr. Harrison said.

“We are delighted that the recruits have successfully come through our comprehensive training programme,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Anthony Ennis remarked.

This group is the largest number of local recruits to date for the RCIPS.
