Chief Justice Ivor Archie has brought the Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago into several controversies nationally and appears to have committed serious breaches while acting in his capacity as the Head of the Judiciary.

While the honourable response would have been resignation, the Chief Justice has steadfastly refused to do so – putting into ironic question the meaning of his title “Honourable Chief Justice”, which he temporarily holds in the life of our Republic.

Instead, he has insisted on the results of due process, which is of course, his right.

Today, with the publication of the article, “Questions over shooting of gay man with links to Trinidad judge” in the UK Guardian, however, Chief Justice Ivor Archie has allowed his personal controversies to bring not only the Judiciary, but the entire Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, into disrepute.

The contents of the article are shameful.

This is intolerable. It will be a permanent stain on our history, internationally.

The Chief Justice must resign now, failing which the President of our Republic, herself a former judge, must act.
