Online store brings affordable interior design to Cayman Islands homeowners

Local design powerhouse Lydia Uzzell Interior Design has launched HUIS, a new-to-market interiors e-retail store offering designer-approved furniture and accessories across a range of budgets and styles to island homeowners.

The new concept was conceived to help make interior design more accessible, without the long-term commitment or higher costs of a full-service interior design firm. HUIS provides an easy and stress-free alternative to creating a forever home in Cayman, as customers can browse collections of designer homewares and curated room edits at their leisure, carefully curated by the team at Lydia Uzzell Interior Design, while the site’s built-in blog offers design inspiration and advice directly from the experts.

HUIS’ director Lydia Uzzell has operated her eponymous interior design firm since 2009, bringing her individual style and expert design perspective to some of the island’s most impressive homes. The e-boutique concept grew organically from her success in the local design space, including homes in prestigious neighbourhoods such as Grand Harbour and Salt Creek. Over the last nine years, her work attracted a burgeoning new client base looking to purchase individual pieces of furniture or re-create design styles seen in homes across the island, without the scope or budget to engage an interior design team.

HUIS provides complimentary on-island delivery, manages all importation, customs and delivery logistics, and offers the additional advantage of accepting local debit and credit card payments online. Additionally, through its price match policy, if a customer finds the same product at a lower price on another website, HUIS will match the lower price.

“Shopping for furniture online from Cayman can be hard,” explained Uzzell. “Even some of the largest retailers don’t take an international credit card or billing address, and won’t deliver your order to a freight forwarder. Plus, often your new furniture isn’t packaged properly for its long-haul journey and arrives damaged or marked. Our team uses its little black book of homeware designers and distributors, as well as our extensive experience in importing furniture to the Cayman Islands, to offer the best home products, at the best price points, with the least amount of hassle.”

HUIS is derived from the Dutch word for home, which is a nod to Uzzell’s upbringing in The Netherlands. The e-store launched into the local marketplace with a digital-led competition that offered consumers the chance to win 20% off their HUIS orders for 12 months. Entrants were asked to submit the room or piece of furniture that they were most looking for to help them ‘#MAKEYOURHUISAHOME.’ The winner, Natasha Playne, was chosen by random draw from hundreds of entries and announced this week on HUIS’ Facebook and Instagram pages. Looking to use the opportunity to update her patio, Natasha said, “My current outdoor lounge is falling apart. I’d love something suitable for our climate and all that salt air!”

“With convenience and cost at the forefront of our business model we’re excited to be able to offer ongoing promotions and benefits like our ‘Make Your HUIS a Home’ competition to Cayman residents,” added Uzzell.

Selling exclusively to the Cayman Islands, browse the online store at www.huiscayman.com or contact HUIS by email at [email protected] or by telephone on +1 345 945 1271 to enquire about a custom order.

HUIS is an online home furnishings and décor store, selling exclusively to the Cayman Islands. Founded in 2018 by interior designer Lydia Uzzell, HUIS aims to simplify the often-daunting process of decorating your home, and make amazing interior design accessible to all who want it, by providing an easy and stress-free alternative to creating a home that you love. In addition to a wide selection of furniture and accessories that can be shopped by style or room, HUIS helps to demystify the design process further through custom room edits on the HUIS blog, that are adaptable and affordable to suit a range of budgets and styles.
