Ogier appoints partners in Cayman Islands and British Virgin islands

twitter_iconThe Managing Partners of Ogier’s Caribbean offices today announced that Shameer Jasani has been appointed as a partner in the Cayman Islands Corporate and Funds team, and Ray Ng has been appointed as a partner and Head of Litigation for BVI and Asia.

Commenting on Ray Ng’s appointment, Ogier’s BVI Managing Partner Ray Wearmouth said:  “Ray joined Ogier in the BVI three years ago and quickly attracted accolades from peers and clients alike for his advice and advocacy. He has rightly been described by many as a first class lawyer. His contribution to the firm has been invaluable and this appointment should come as no surprise. Shameer joined Ogier in 2007 from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Taylor Wessing, in London.  A graduate of Cambridge University, Shameer was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2000, and as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands in 2007. Shameer’s practice is focused on investment funds, including hedge funds, funds of funds and private equity funds.  He advises leading investment managers on all aspects of their structuring, formation and ongoing operational requirements.  Shameer also regularly advises strategic and seed investors.  In addition to his investment funds practice, Shameer is one of Cayman’s leading practitioners on intellectual property law matters, and also regularly advises on acquisitions, joint ventures and a wide range of other corporate law matters.

Ray is a graduate of Durham University. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1987 and practised at the London Bar until he joined Ogier BVI in early 2010. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and his areas of practice (for which he is highly rated in all the leading directories) are commercial, company, insolvency and trust law. He has broad experience of complex high-value multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes relating to shareholder rights, directors’ duties, corporate governance, cross-border restructuring and insolvency, trusts, and commercial fraud. He regularly provides expert opinions on these areas of BVI law and has also appeared as an expert witness in various jurisdictions. He is able to read, write and converse in Mandarin.
