images-1The Elections Office wishes to advise all prospective candidates that the Governor will by Proclamation dissolve the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday 26 March, 2013 pursuant to section 84(3) of the Cayman Islands Constitution Order 2009.  On that date he will also, by Proclamation, declare general elections in the Cayman Islands.

The Governor has appointed Wednesday 27 March, 2013, as Nomination Day in the six electoral districts.  The Elections Office has selected the following venues for nomination stations in these electoral districts:

George Town: The Smith Road Centre, 150 Smith Road

Bodden Town: The James M. Bodden Civic Centre, 445C Bodden Town Road

West Bay: The John Gray United Church Hall, 26 West Church Street

Cayman Brac and Little Cayman: The District Administration Building Conference Room, 19 Kirkconnell Street

East End: The William Allen McLaughlin Civic Centre, 80 John McLean Drive

North Side: The Craddock Ebanks Civic Centre, 923 North Side Road

Returning Officers will be in attendance at these nomination stations between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. in order to receive nomination forms, along with requisite deposits of CI$1,000.00.  Deposits can be made in cash or by cashier’s check drawn on a local bank.  This deposit is refundable only if a candidate receives more than one-tenth of the total of votes polled.

All prospective candidates should be conversant with the qualifications and disqualifications as prescribed in sections 61 and 62 of the Cayman Islands Constitution Order 2009 and section 30 of the Elections Law (2009 Revision) which addresses offences in respect of nomination papers.

The Elections Office urges all prospective candidates, if unsure as to whether or not they qualify, to seek legal advice prior to Nomination Day.

Candidates may obtain their elections kits from the Elections Office for a fee of $125.00.  These kits include all relevant laws, the Constitution and other topical information, including nomination forms.
