New reasons to love HBO on Saturday nights

New Hollywood movies premiere each Saturday of July and August, exclusively on HBO.

MIAMI, Fl. – June 29, 2017 This July and August, expect the unexpected from HBO’s Saturday night movie lineup, with two months of back-to-back exclusive movie premieres every Saturday night at 21hrs AST* that will dip viewers’ toes into every possible genre and keep them on the edge of their seats. From potential award-winning films to those that assembled dream casts, these films have seen their share of controversy and excitement. The most coveted night of the week belongs to HBO, home to the most provocative programming on television today.

The following films premiere this July, exclusively on HBO:

 

  • Inferno – July 1: Following the critical success of The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, two-time Oscarâ winner Tom Hanks reprises the role of famed symbologist Robert Langdon in Inferno. In this sequel and third installment, Hanks follows clues tied to Dante, the great medieval poet, but when he wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he must join forces with a doctor, portrayed by Oscarânominee Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), to recover his memory and get back on the trail. Based on the novel by Dan Brown, the film is directed by Oscarâ-winning director Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind).

 

  • The Purge: Election Year July 8: The Purge: Election Yearis an action, horror film about the annual ritual known an as ‘The Purge,’ an event during which all crime is legalized for 12 hours. The film is the sequel to The Purge: Anarchy, the third installment of The Purge franchise, and again follows the life of Leo Barnes, this time serving as the head of security for a senator hired to protect her on this dreaded night. The film was a major box office success grossing more than $100 million in sales.

 

  • The BFG – July 15: Based on the beloved children’s book by Roald Dahl, The BFG is the story of Big Friendly Giant, and the friend he makes in Sophie, a little orphan girl. Their friendship takes them on a journey to Giant Country where together they attempt to stop the man-eating giants that threaten to invade the human world.  The film is directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg.

 

  • The Hateful Eight July 22: In post-Civil War Wyoming, bounty hunter John “The Hangman” Ruth and his fugitive prisoner encounter another bounty hunter and a man who claims he is a sheriff. Taking shelter under a mountain pass during a blizzard, the group meets four strangers and the eight travelers suddenly realize they may not make it to their final destination. The Hateful Eight is directed by award-winner Quentin Tarantino.

 

  • War DogsJuly 29: Loosely based on a true story, War Dogs is the story of two young American kids who became big-time weapons dealers. It’s the aftermath of 9/11 and two unassuming childhood friends, portrayed by two-time Oscarâ nominee Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Miles Teller (Whiplash), become the ultimate schemers who infiltrate a treacherous world as international arms dealers that ultimately proves to be way over their heads.

 

The following films premiere this August, exclusively on HBO:

 

  • Fifty Shades of Black August 5: A parody film of Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades of Black follows Hannah Steele as she interviews entrepreneur Christian Black for the school paper, as a favor for her roommate. Flirtation leads to attraction, and soon Christian invites Hannah to his home and introduces her to his twisted world S&M. Despite their differences, Hannah and Christian continuously surprise each other with how far they’re willing to go to ensure their relationship lasts. The comedic spoof stars Marlon Wayans and Kali Hawk.

 

  • Pete’s DragonAugust 12: In Pete’s Dragon, Oscarâ winner and Hollywood legend Robert Redford plays a woodcarver who is known for his stories about a mysterious dragon that lives deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. It’s not until one day when Pete, an orphan boy, emerges from the woods, and tells his tale about his life alongside a giant, friendly dragon, that people start to believe in the possibility that this in fact real. Redford’s daughter, portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help), takes it upon herself to lead the quest to uncover the truth. The film is a magical tale of love and faith.

 

  • The Accountant August 19: Two-time Oscarâ winner Ben Affleck stars in The Accountant, an action thriller about a mathematics savant who makes a living as a freelance accountant for dangerous criminal organizations but has to carefully watch his steps once the Treasury Department catches wind of his dealings. The film also stars Oscarâ nominee Anna Kendrick and Oscarâ winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash).

 

  • Storks August 26: It’s been a long time since storks were responsible for delivering babies, and today instead work for a retail giant bringing packages to clients’ doors. When an order for a baby suddenly appears, the best delivery stork in the game is put to the ultimate test and has to deliver the baby. With the voices of some of television most iconic comedic stars, including Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine Nine), Kelsey Grammer (Frasier), and Jennifer Aniston (Friends), Storks is a heartwarming animated tale that will warm the hearts of the whole family.

 

All of these films will also be available on HBO GO, the digital platform for premium entertainment.
