New partner to lead Carey Olsen’s trusts and private wealth teams in BVI and Cayman

Leading offshore law firm Carey Olsen has appointed Bernadette Carey to head up its trusts and private wealth practice across the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Cayman Islands – reflecting the ongoing growth of the firm’s Caribbean offices.

Ms Carey, who joins from another offshore law firm in the Cayman Islands, has a broad private client practice advising on wealth structuring and estate planning matters, including the administration, restructuring and termination of trusts, as well as probate and testamentary issues. She also has significant experience in trust litigation, regularly appearing before the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands on multi-party contentious trust disputes, estate litigation, and other cross-border private client disputes.

She is recognised for her trusts and private client work by both Chambers and Legal 500 with market sources describing her as ‘incredibly hard-working’ and ‘really first class’.

Jarrod Farley, managing partner of Carey Olsen’s Cayman Islands office, said: “Bernadette’s appointment demonstrates the continued success of our Cayman Islands and BVI offices since their openings in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Bernadette brings with her a tremendous reputation and we’re delighted she is now part of our team, particularly as we look to further develop our global trusts and private wealth offering.”

Ms Carey commented: “I am delighted to be joining such an ambitious, dynamic and well-respected law firm. Our trusts and private wealth business in both the British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands has seen steady growth in recent years and I look forward to building on this success and working closely with the team both here in the Caribbean and in our other international offices to broaden our client base.”

Her appointment coincides with the recent arrival of Richard Munden who joined Carey Olsen’s Cayman Islands office as a corporate partner earlier this month, bringing the total number of partners across the firm’s BVI and Cayman Islands offices to 11.
