NEW ACTION: Stop Shein!
By Krysta Bisnauth, Freedom United

We need to talk about Shein. The ultra-fast fashion giant has made billions off exploitation and several investigations have linked its supply chain to forced labor, including the abuse of Uyghur workers. Yet, online global retailer Shein is trying to go public on the London Stock Exchange, hoping to cover up its dirty practices and rake in even more profit with a valuation as high as $68 billion. Take action At a recent UK parliamentary hearing, Shein was asked directly about its supply chain. What did it do? Dodge the questions. Refuse to give real answers.[1] If they had nothing to hide, why would they do this? We’ll tell you. Laboratory results from reputable sources have uncovered evidence of Shein’s complicity in the Uyghur forced labor system.[2] Instead of taking responsibility for its impact on people and the planet, Shein is pretending not to know their own supply chain and hoping policymakers look the other way. We can’t let this slide. UK regulators have the power to stop Shein from listing—but they need to hear from all of us. Let them know The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the very body responsible for approving companies for public listing on the stock exchange, holds immense power in shaping the ethical standards of the market. Just two weeks ago, the FCA Chief Executive, Nikhil Rathi, along with other senior UK government officials, traveled to China for a UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogue. On the heels of this visit, UK Financial Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, promised that “fiscal rules are non-negotiable”.[3] But what about the Modern Slavery Act? The FCA and the UK government now have a choice to make: Will they prioritize financial partnerships over enforcing the UK’s commitment to human rights or will they block the Shein listing? Their decision will send a clear message to the world about where the UK stands on Uyghur forced labor. Write to the FCA Chief If enough of us speak out, we can keep Shein off the London Stock Exchange and end exploitation as part of business as usual. Thank you for being a part of this crucial movement. In solidarity, Krysta and the team supporting the Freedom United community. |
