image001KINGSTON, Feb. 16, 2016 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and SportsMax today announced a multi-year partnership that will offer an increased number of games, as well as live broadcast of the NBA Conference Finals, to nearly 30 Caribbean territories.

This multiyear partnership will increase the number of SportsMax NBA broadcasts from 48 regular-season games to up to 112 and from eight postseason games to up to 53, including live broadcasts of the NBA Conference Finals.

SportsMax, which began its relationship with the NBA in 2015, will also continue to offer fans in over 30 territories of the region content-rich programming that includes the highlight show “NBA Action” and select classic games.

“We are listening to our basketball fans who say they want more live action and content,” said SportsMax President and CEO Olly McIntosh. “It’s about bringing the sport closer to the fans and that is what this new deal with NBA will deliver.”

In the run-up to the NBA Playoffs, SportsMax tips off its increased coverage of the NBA this Thursday with two marquee matchups. Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers face the Chicago Bulls at 8pm EST while Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs take on the LA Clippers at 10.30pm EST. SportsMax will showcase the NBA throughout the season with feature games on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

“We are excited to provide our fans in the Caribbean more live games and content through the extension of this strategic partnership with SportsMax,” said NBA Senior Vice President, Latin America Philippe Moggio. “SportsMax is one of the Caribbean’s premier sports destinations, and its extensive reach will give our fans the chance to experience even more expanded coverage of our games and programming.”

The extended partnership will also continue to strengthen the NBA’s commitment to growing the game of basketball around the world. Through its ground-breaking agreements with SportsMax and Digicel, the NBA has executed a series of development clinics in the Caribbean, providing expert training and unique NBA experiences – including attending an NBA game – to a group of junior players from across the region.
