Miss Cayman Islands ladies on cancer education tour

Breast Cancer - West Bay ssMiss Cayman Islands contestants Anika Conolly and Kamala Murugesu assisted the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens (LCTG) last Thursday, 2 October, at the first of a series of breast cancer awareness district meetings.

Over 100 West Bay ladies of all ages came out to the event at John Gray Memorial Church. District residents learned medical information and practical tips for ensuring breast health from Dr. Michell Mon-Desir, and posed questions of their own. The LCTG also offered audience members vouchers for free mammograms.

Earlier last week the contestants joined LCTG dignitaries for the official launch of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, for which this year’s theme is “Celebrate Courage”. All pageant participants are teaming up with the Club for these district visits and other events.

Other contestants will appear at tonight’s Bodden Town meeting at the Webster Memorial Church Hall at 7:30pm. They will then join LCTG on Thursday, 9 October, at the East End United Church Hall.

The Cayman Islands Cancer Society is the sole charity for all contestants this year. For more information on the LCTG breast cancer drive call 936-1739.
